Arguably the best team in school history. The 1959 squad, under the direction of Coach Leroy Decker, posted a 21-3 overall record while reaching the Class B state championship game before losing 52-47 to River Rouge. Pacing Holly was center George McDaniel who recorded 28 points and 20 rebounds in the final game and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the state tournament. “Big George” was the county scoring leader with 24.4 points per game, a total of 391 points for the regular season and finished his high school varsity career with a total of 1,066 points (all three Holly records). The team set a game high scoring record with 89 points against Bendle. Two additional records set that year were for game average of 69.4 points and a season total of 1,238 points.
