Willie Heller left his mark on the track and field program at Holly High School during arguably the most successful period in the history of the program. During Willie’s junior year, he ran the leadoff leg of the 880 yard relay that placed 3rd overall at the MHSAA Track and Field State Finals and earned all-state recognition. In addition to that, Willie individually qualified for the state finals in the 100 yard dash. Willie was also second team all Flint Metro League during his junior season finishing a step behind his teammate and fellow Broncho Hall of Fame member Cottrell Williams. It was during this junior season that Willie along with his teammates earned a State Championship in track and field.

As a senior in the spring of 1972, Willie’s success on the track continued. Willie earned numerous accolades during his senior season including being the Flint Metro League champion in the 100 yd dash and the 220 yard dash. He backed that up by winning the MHSAA Regional in those same two events and went on to finish 5th in the state in both events, earning All-State recognition for each event. Willie also tied his former teammate, Cottrell Williams, school record in the 100 yard dash that still stands to this day. In addition, Willie set the school record in the 220 yard dash during his senior season, a record that held for 34 years. Willie was also recognized by his teammates as a team captain during the 1972 track season.

Since high school, Willie worked and retired from General Motors. He has raised a family and currently resides in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
