Sami Hild

Girls Basketball • Girls Tennis • Girls Soccer • Football
Year: 2018

Sami was selected by the varsity coaching staff to be the Broncho Female Athlete of the Year. She has a perfect 4.0 gpa (4.095 on a weighted scale), earned 12 varsity letters and was a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete nine times.

For the first time in the fall of her HS career, Sami was a school athlete. She joined the football team this year, excelled at kicking extra points and now holds a school record for the most extra points in a game with 7. She was 25 for 33 on the year. Sami enjoyed the experience tremendously and had a great season.

Varsity Football Coach Ryan Culloty states, “I had the pleasure to work with Sami Hild this past fall and I was taken away with her dedication to the sport. Taking up football for the first time can be a daunting task and to also transform that opportunity into a starting role was special. Day after day Sami dedicated herself to improving as a player and working to fit into our team culture. She worked tirelessly to become a better football player and in doing so won the respect of her teammates in the process. From setting records on the field to setting and example in the classroom, Sami Hild represents everything that we want in an athlete here at Holly.”

Sami moved from the field to the court during the winter months and played on the basketball team all four years. Our team advanced to the MHSAA District finals each year. The team earned either HM Academic All State or Academic All state honors each year. Sami served as a captain her junior year and earned Flint Metro League HM honors this year.

Dave Hall, our varsity girls basketball coach states, “Sami was a competitor on the floor, she played to win even when she didn't get all the credit.  She is very knowledgable about what other teams are trying to do and that makes it difficult to play against her. The Brandon coach paid her a compliment when shaking hands after the game, noting how glad he was that their team didn’t have to play her again.”

During her freshman through junior years, Sami played both soccer and tennis. This past season Sami chose to focus on tennis and therefore did not play both sports. As a junior soccer player, Sami was the teams Most Valuable Offensive Player and earned All District honors.

The tennis courts are her home in the spring. She (and her team) have excelled the past four seasons. Her accolades include:
Individual and team league and regional champions during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons
4th doubles state semi-finalist her sophomore and junior years; 2nd doubles quarter-finalist this year
As a sophomore – Most Dedicated
Sami earned the Excellence in Doubles award as a junior in addition to the team’s Scholar-Athlete award
The tennis banquet is tomorrow night and I’m sure many awards will have her name on them.

Coach Will Sophiea states, “I am a teacher and tennis coach at Holly High School. I have had the opportunity to work with Sami Hild in various settings for several years. Sami has been a member of our Holly Varsity Tennis Team since her freshmen year. She has won numerous awards and set multiple program records in her first three years. While her achievements on the tennis court are extraordinary, Sami’s impact as a teammate and leader are what impress me most as her coach. Her determination, drive and passion are something that sets her apart from her peers. Younger players see this in Sami and look up to her for it. This same level of effort is apparent in the classroom for Sami. As a teacher I had Sami in Economics as a junior. She was an excellent student as she would consistently complete her assignments with the utmost professionalism and diligence. Sami is a teacher’s dream to have in the classroom when it comes to group activities and discussions with her continual willingness to be involved and participate. This past summer, Sami volunteered several weeks to be one of our summer tennis coaches. Once again her dedication and passion shined through as she was one our very best coaches as only a 17 year old. Sami demonstrated incessant patience as she thrived working with a youngest group of players which consisted of kids as young as 3 years old. Sami is someone who never gives in and will perservere even with the most difficult obstacles in her way. If she feels strongly about something, she will undoubtedly pursue it until she has accomplished what she set out to do. Sami’s accountability has been very apparent to me for many years. If something needs to get done in our program, Sami is the one we go to. Sami Hild is a wonderful student athlete that has done great things for the Holly Tennis Program, Holly High School and the entire Holly Community. She will do even greater things in her post high school career.

Sami was a MHSAA Scholar-Athlete finalist this year. She earned Honorable Mention in the FML Math Science competition in Trigonometry. She has been a member of NHS for 2 years and the Spanish NHS for 3 in which she serves as Treasurer. Additionally, she is in the National Future Farmers of America and served a term as President. Sami has been involved heavily with school activities as she is an instrumental member of our Leadership Class for two years. She has been in Rho Kappa, the Social Studies Honor Society for two years. Lastly, Sami was selected the Flint Metro League Kiwanis Athlete of the Month and the Flint Area Athlete of the Month.

Sami will head south to Ohio where she will play soccer for The University of Findlay while studying animal science / pre-veterinary medicine. Congratulations on your outstanding athletic and academic career at Holly HS!
