2017 Male Athlete of the Year

Francisco earned nine varsity letters in his career at HHS. Francisco was on our varsity track team all four years. As a freshman he played soccer and ran track. The following fall not only did he play varsity soccer, but he added varsity cross-country to his resume. In the spring, he ran track. As a junior, he hung up his soccer cleats and focused on cross-country and track, at which he has excelled.

As a sophomore, Francisco earned 2nd team FML honors in soccer. His junior and senior years he was 2nd team FML in cross-country. Additionally, he served as captain of the team this year. Our team won the prestigious Holly Invite in September and Francisco placed in the top ten.

Coach Brinker stated, “Francisco was a transplant from soccer and did a great job for our varsity team all three years he ran with us. He is a very bright young man that puts forth a tremendous amount of work towards both athletics and academics. Francisco is a great teammate to others and has been a joy to coach.”

The track was where you would find Francisco in the spring. For two years he was a member of our sprint relays and hurdle events and converted to the 800m run as his main event the last two years. Francisco has been our team captain each of his junior and senior years.

Coach Ejak stated, “Francisco Valdovinos is a fine student, athlete and young adult. Coaching him for the past four years has been a pleasure, as I have seen him grow in many ways. Francisco works hard to accomplish the goals he sets for himself and strives to help others around him achieve theirs. He represents Holly well as the Male Athlete of the Year.”

Francisco was a three-year member of the Spanish National Honor Society. He was a Flint Metro League Scholar Athlete each of the six trimesters he was eligible and was ranked 20th in the senior class with a 3.87 GPA. Our varsity coaching staff chose Francisco as our male Athlete of the Year.
