Brooke Jackman

Girls Basketball • Girls Volleyball • Girls Track & Field • Softball
Year: 2015
2015 Female Athlete of the Year

Brooke played four varsity sports during her senior year and amassed eight varsity letters throughout her career at Holly High School.

Volleyball was Brooke’s sport of choice in the fall. She played two years on each the JV and Varsity teams. In each of her junior and senior years she was awarded the Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete award for maintaining a 3.5 or better gpa. Her senior year, Brooke earned the Individual All-State Academic Award as well. Varsity volleyball coach Jamie Jones mentioned, “Brooke is a very hard worker and a great person to have around. She's quite the perfectionist and holds herself to high standards. She played many positions and worked hard everyday. She will be missed in the program”.

During the cold winter months, Brooke was seen on the basketball court. For three years she was a valuable, contributing member of our team. A highlight her junior year was our undefeated 20-0 regular season play followed by a District Championship. Brooke capped her basketball career earning two school awards … the Most Improved and Leadership award. This was an interesting combination … showing her drive and determination to always become better and the fact that her peers respected and trusted her to lead their team. The Flint Metro League coaches also noticed Brooke’s efforts and recognized her with an all league honorable mention selection.

Coach David Hall stated, “Brooke was always out to help make her team better. Brooke led by example in the way she approached practices and games. She always had words to encourage her teammates even when times became difficult. When I would ask Brooke how we could improve the team, she always would tell me what was best, not best for her. In the classroom she was an excellent student. Brooke was in our leadership class and she helped make Holly a better place for all to go to school. Brooke is one of the students who you wish would never be able to graduate.” Coach Casey Lombard echoed Coach Hall’s sentiments. He shared with me, “Over the last three years Brooke has made a huge impact on our program through her dedication to constantly get better, striving to push her teammates to do the same, and being an effective and respected leader. She is not just a great athlete; she has influenced many of her fellow classmates to reach higher through her extra curricular and leadership activities outside of athletics. Brooke has earned the respect of her coaches, teachers, and peers at HHS and is a phenomenal example of what a student athlete should be. I am so proud of her and grateful to have had the opportunity to be her teacher and coach.”

Brooke first picked up a third sport her junior year when she joined the track and field team. In her first season she was recognized with the Teamwork award and the FML scholar athlete award. Varsity T/F coach Rich Brinker stated, “Brooke is a pure competitor no matter what the sport or competition. Brooke will give you her all no matter if she was hurt, sick or just not having a great day. Again, a true competitor in every thing she does."

Earlier Coach Brinker eluded that Brooke was a dual sport athlete this spring…she added the sport of softball to her resume. She didn’t have a lot of experience, but just “being Brooke” added a much-needed dimension to our team. Varsity softball coach Matt Kessler said, “Brooke is an outstanding human being not just an athlete. She always had a smile on her face and always displayed kindness and generosity to those around her. She is very compassionate and committed to all things she involved in and will be greatly missed!”

Brooke was chosen State Bank Athlete of the Week twice during her basketball career. She has been a FML scholar-athlete each of the eight times she was eligible for this high honor and graduated with a 3.695. Our varsity coaching staff chose Brooke to represent Holly High School as our female Athlete of the Year.
