Zac Felix

Boys Cross Country • Boys Track & Field • Boys Ski • Boys Soccer
Year: 2015
2015 Male Athlete of the Year

Zac earned a dozen varsity letters in his career at HHS. His career, however, isn’t the simple straightforward three sports for four years career. As a freshman Zac played JV soccer, skied and was on the track and field team. The following fall not only did he play varsity soccer, but he added varsity cross-country to his resume. As a junior, he hung up his soccer cleats and focused on cross-country, skiing and track, which he competed and excelled in his senior year.

Zac has had a great cross-country career. Highlights include:
- as a sophomore, Most Dedicated and Flint Metro League scholar-athlete

- as a junior, team captain, Coach Raffin Award, 2nd team FML, team FML champions, 3rd place at regionals, 15th at D1 state meet, FML scholar athlete, Academic All State, State Bank Athlete of the Week

- as a senior, team captain, Leadership Award, 1st team FML, team FML champions, regional champions, 11th at D1 state meet, FML scholar athlete, Academic All State, State Bank Athlete of the Week

I haven’t mentioned any weekend invitational awards earned as the list goes on and on …

Zac wass a huge part of the Holly/Oxford team success. Highlights include:

- as a freshman, SEMSL (Southeastern Michigan Ski League) champions, Most Dedicated Award

- as a sophomore, team captain, SEMSL champions, 1st place SEMSL, All Division in the giant slalom (GS), Leadership, State Bank Athlete of the Week

- as a junior, team captain, All Division in both slalom and GS, State Bank Athlete of the Week

- as a senior, team captain, team Leadership and Scholar-Athlete award, All Division slalom and GS, All League slalom and GS, All Region slalom and GS, SEMSL team champions, MHSAA Regional champions (1st time ever), 4th fastest team in D1, 15th place in slalom = 3rd team all state, 22nd place in GS = honorable mention all state

Zac’s ski coach, Dalton Sink stated, “Zac is a great recipient of this award I am very proud of him. Zac was my captain for the ski team and was a great bridge between myself and the other athletes. Zac worked hard at all the practices and was a great example for the other skiers. His hard work paid off and he was apart of the state qualifying ski team and was on the all-state ski team. It is amazing to watch his athletic ability, and sometimes we forget that these are student-athletes and his excellence in school and sports was no easy task. Zac Felix is well deserving of the athlete of the year award.”

The track was where you would find Zac in the spring. He had a stellar career including:

- as a freshman, 2nd place in the 4x800 in the freshman Oakland County Meet

- as a sophomore, Flint Metro League team champs, 2nd fastest sophomore in school history in 3200 meter run, FML scholar-athlete

- as a junior, team captain, Flint Metro League team champs and FML scholar-athlete

- as a senior, team captain, Flint Metro League team co-champs, FML and regional 4x800 relay champions; just three days ago, Zac and his three 4x800 relay teammates ran an incredible time at the MHSAA state finals, finished in 8th place and earned All state recognition; additionally, this time set a new school record

Coach Brinker, our cross-country and track & field coach, remarked “Zac is a huge part of our teams success. He is a true leader on and off the course.”

Zac participated in THREE state finals meets his senior year and excelled in each. What an incredible career he had at HHS. He was chosen by the varsity coaching staff as our male Athlete of the Year.

There is a story behind the story… what I haven’t mentioned is one very interesting tidbit … this past summer (June of 2014) Zac suffered a stroke. Once cleared by the doctors he was determined to perform at a higher level than ever before. Zac’s determination, mental toughness and leadership were evident.
