2011 Female Athlete of the Year

Jenna was a three-sport athlete and earned eleven varsity letters in her career at Holly HS; three in basketball, and four in both volleyball and track & field. In other words, Jenna was a ‘Triple Threat” athlete for the Bronchos three years. Athletes like her are few and far between.

Jenna was a spark on the varsity volleyball team each year. Her freshman year she earned the Sportsmanship Award, sophomore year the Most Dedicated Award, junior year the Leadership Award and senior was team captain and earned All-Tri-County honors. She was truly the heart and soul of the volleyball team while running the offense from the setter position.

Basketball Coach Dave Hall stated, “Jenna had a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Whether it be a game winning basket or a big defensive play, she was always someone you could count on to make her team better.” As mentioned earlier, Jenna played varsity basketball for three seasons. She earned the teams Best Defender Award and FML Honorable Mention her junior year and served as team captain and earned the Leadership Award during her senior season.

In January, the Flint Metro League athletic directors chose Jenna, as the Kiwanis Female Athlete of the Month.

In the spring, Jenna could be found throwing the shot, discus or long jumping. In 2010, Jenna earned 1st team FML honors and finished 2nd in the discus at the regional meet; qualifying her for the MHSAA Division I state finals where she threw for a 9th place finish. The same this year, 1st team FML, 2nd at the regional and qualified for the state finals.

As a senior, Jenna served as volleyball, basketball and track & field team captain. It is evident both coaches and players notice her leadership ability, high level of commitment, positive and sportsmanlike attitude as well as the fact that she was a great role model for her teammates.

Not only did she excel on the athletic playing field…but also in the classroom achieving an impressive 3.89 gpa earning her the FML Scholar-Athlete Award each season. MIVCA…The Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Caoches Association, named Jenna to the All-State Academic team. Jenna represented Holly HS in the Flint Metro League Math and Science Competition three times….as a freshman in Algebra II, a sophomore in Pre-Calculus earning a gold medal, and as a senior in Physics. Additionally, Jenna was one of 120 (out of more than 2,000 applicants) to earn the distinction of MHSAA scholar-athlete finalist. Additionally, she earned the Holly Kiwanis Club award on Memorial Day Monday for outstanding scholarship, athletic ability and leadership. Jenna was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and the Captain’s Club.
