Anderius Gray

Football • Boys Basketball • Boys Track & Field
Year: 2011
2011 Male Athlete of the Year

Anderius had a tremendous high school career … on the football field, the basketball court and the track. Anderius, however, began his HS career in Tennessee and transferred to Holly HS (came back home) his junior year. Reviewing his contribution to our teams and his impact on our program, it is truly hard to believe he was a HS athlete for us only two short years.

Before I share his accolades and comments from his coaches, let me point one thing…which you have probably noticed already…his smile. Anderius always has a smile on his face and is friendly and kind to all. I will certainly miss him and that smile next year.

Even as a freshman, Anderius played varsity football. It was obvious to all he was talented. At HHS his junior year he received the MVP special teams awards and was chosen Flint Metro League honorable mention. His performance his senior year earned him recognition from league coaches and he received FML 1st team offense and FML 1st team defensive back. Our coaching staff gave him the offensive skilled player of the year award. His talent on both sides of the ball helped lead us into our second ever in school history playoff game. Coach Culloty stated, “Anderius Gray is an outstanding athlete. He displayed tremendous growth between his 11th and 12th grade years, and is undoubtedly why he received this honor today. He pushed himself to become a complete player and work to his full potential. This was evident this past season when Anderius became a unanimous 1st All Conference Running Back. Anderius had a special quality that will be hard to replace from his talent to his demeanor, he was a true asset to our program."

Anderius played two years of varsity basketball under Coach Lance Baylis. Coach Baylis stated, “Anderius is one of the most athletic and physically gifted athletes I’ve had over the last six years. He is extremely fast, quick and strong. This, combined with his competitive spirit and team first attitude, made him a tremendous joy to coach. He was gold for me for 2 years and I am really going to miss him.” Anderius earned the team’s Most Improved Award both his junior and senior year…and in my opinion shows a lot about his character and work ethic. This year he earned FML All Conference honorable mention."

In the spring, Anderius was a valuable member of our undefeated FML championship track team as a member of the 400m and 800m relay teams. At track invites he earned upwards to 20 medals between his junior and senior years.

Anderius earned the prestigious HHS Triple Threat Award twice and was given the Charles Sackrider Memorial Award for basketball and football. The junior and senior Powder Puff teams benefited by his football knowledge as he coached the teams to back to back victories. He volunteered with youth from Holly in both sport and math assistance and played basketball for the Silver Lake Nazarene Church.
