Special Recognition for 50 Years of Service to Holly Athletics
Booster President (1968-1975)
HHS Class of 1947

Holly is Maurice Pearson’s home. He was born and raised here, and returned to Holly to raise his family. While at HHS he played football and was a member of the ROTC. After high school, in 1947 he was offered an apprenticeship with a local plumbing company and later worked construction. In 1948 he began a 39-year career with Ford. With the war in full swing, he took a leave from Ford and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1950-53. He was stationed at Paris Island, SC and a few other places before heading to the Pacific. Before his military career ended, he had earned the rank of Sargent.

Sarge, as many affectionately know him, has been actively involved in the Holly Area Community since the early 50’s. He umpired little league from 1959-64, was the Cub Scout Master from 1960-68, head usher at Community United Methodist Church from 1985-2003. His family was chosen Holly’s Family of the Year in 1986. Sarge is a member of the American Legion and served as post Commander in 1998 and 99. He is also a member of the VFW firing squad and spends many afternoons at the hall with his friends.

In addition to those just mentioned, we are honoring him today for 50 years of service to the Holly Athletic department. He began volunteering in 1961. Since those early days, Sarge has been willing to do just about anything for the coaches and student-athletes of HHS. He held the office of Booster president from 1968-75, was named Booster of the Year in 1975. For the last 13 years you could find Sarge in the ticket booth at the Karl Richter Campus, teasing and pleasantly harassing the kids and all who enter the gate.

Maurice and his beloved wife Susie, raised three children, Josh, Judy and Jim, who all attended Holly Area Schools. Judy and her husband Matt Johnson live in Holly, and their sons, Kyle and Keith, were Broncho athletes. Kyle played soccer and basketball while Keith played soccer, basketball and tennis.

Sarge, a simple thank you is not enough to demonstrate just how much we appreciate all you have done for and have meant to those of us involved in Holly athletics. For your selfless, continued support of our coaches and athletes for the last 50 years, we induct you into our Hall of Fame with a Special Recognition award.
