LeRoy Millis was a four-year, three sport athlete (football, basketball and baseball) at Lapeer High School. He earned all league, region and state honors in baseball. Roy enlisted in the Air Force. Upon his discharge, he enrolled at Central Michigan University. While there, he pitched for the university’s baseball team and earned a Bachelors degree in Education. In 1962 he earned Masters in Education.

In 1965, Roy Millis arrived on the scene in Holly. This was after a three-year career of teaching and coaching at Flint (now Burton) Bendle. His first year here he guided the team to a wining record in the Wayne-Oakland League Conference and a district title.

A year later he served as Holly’s athletic director and was instrumental in the creation of the Flint Metro League. The league originally included: Fenton, Holly, Lapeer, Swartz Creek, Ainsworth, and Carman high schools.

In 1969, Millis accepted an assistant basketball position at Central Michigan University, where he remained for two years. At this time he was named head basketball coach at Albion College. In 1976, he was asked to return to Holly as athletic director. He served in this position, except for two years, until his retirement in the early 1990’s.

Roy married his high school sweetheart Betsy in 1956. They have four children and six grandchildren.
