2004 Female Athlete of the Year

Kati Therriault was Holly’s candidate for Athlete of the Year. She had numerous athletic and academic high school accomplishments. She played four years of basketball, volleyball and softball – earning a total of 10 varsity letters; she also served for four years as a student council member and the class of ‘04 treasurer. She was a two year member of the honor society and the Spanish honor society, and the co-valedictorian of her senior class.

To give a bit of background, during her freshman year she was the captain of her basketball and softball teams and a member of the varsity volleyball team…all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa.

During her sophomore year she was recognized in Who’s Who Among High School Students, was the Most Improved Player of the varsity BB team, the State Bank athlete of the week during BB and VB and again…all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa.

During her junior year she was Holly’s FML representative for math and science. She won the Madame Curie science award, the Bausch and Lomb science award, and she was again recognized in Who’s Who Among High School Students. She was named State Bank athlete of the week in BB, VB and SB, earned the FML scholar athlete award each season and was captain of the BB and VB teams…all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa.

During her senior year, she won the Flint Journal Golden Apple Award, was recognized in Who’s Who Among High School Students, was the captain of the BB, VB and SB teams, and earned the FML scholar athlete award each season. She won the State Bank athlete of the week each season, set school records in VB for ace spikes and blocks, won the Detroit Free Press Scholar Athlete award, was the Fox 66 Center Court athlete in January, Channel 5 and Channel 7 scholar athlete, was named Oakland Press Dream Team Volleyball player…all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa

Other awards include:
FML Volleyball – 10th grade 2nd team all league, 11th and 12th grade 1st team all league
FML Basketball – 11th grade 2nd team all league, 12th grade 3rd team all league
FML Softball – 11th grade 2nd team all league, 12th grade (this season isn’t over yet!)

She was 1st team all region in VB her junior and senior years, and was Honorable Mention All State her senior year. She was voted Most Dedicated, earned the Leadership award, and Most Valuable Player in VB and the Kiwanis Athlete of the month in December, and the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Finalist. The list actually goes on…but I will stop here. I would like to remind you that these accomplishments were made…all while maintaining a 4.0 gpa.

In her spare time she tutored elementary students in math, science and Spanish, read books on tape for special needs students at Holly and Clarkston high schools, organized the schools’ blood drive, coached youth BB and VB programs, volunteered with the Oakland County 4-H fair, with POHI students and raised a PAWS dog for 2 years for a person wheelchair bound.
