Julie was a four-year letterwinner in track from 1979-82. She won six Flint Metro League championships, three in the 100, two in the 400 and one in the 200, while leading the Bronchos to team championships in 1980 and 81. She set the 100 school record at 12.9 in 1981. Julie earned All- Region and All-State recognition in 1982. Julie earned All-American honors in the 400 hurdles at Southwest Michigan College in 1984.

In cross country, Julie was a three year letterwinner from 1979-81. She earned All-Region and All-League honors her senior year while also qualifying for the Class A state Meet.

Julie continued her academic and athletic career at Southwest Michigan Community College. In 1984, Julie earned All-American honors in the 400 hurdles. Julie transferred to Auburn University.
