Chuck Keefer

Football • Boys Basketball • Baseball
Induction Year: 2003
HHS Varsity Football Coach (1981-1995)
HHS Teacher
HHS Class of 1968

Chuck Keefer graduated from Holly High School in 1968. Football, basketball and baseball were his sports and he earned a combined eight varsity letters. At that time, HHS had a Letterman’s Club and Chuck served as president. Upon graduation, Chuck attended Eastern Michigan University where he played football. Unfortunately, his playing days ended after two seasons due to injury. After he earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching, he returned to Holly HS in 1981.

Immediately, he took the reins of the varsity football program and served in that capacity longer than any other coach in our school history. In 15 seasons (1981-95), Coach Keefer led the Bronchos' football team to a school record 42 victories. He ranks ninth on the Flint Metro League's all-time win list with 36 wins. His 1984 team posted a 6-3 record, which represents the school's best single mark since an 8-1 record in 1964. Holly had quite a long losing streak and in Keefer's first year, his team broke that streak with a 20-14 win over arch rival Fenton. Keefer had several players go on to play NCAA college football, five of which went on to captain their college team.

In addition to football, Keefer coached basketball and track. Throughout his 30+ years in education, Keefer touched the lives of thousands of student-athletes, always making a positive impact on their life. "His kids" are better people and citizens because of his influence in their life.

All three of Coach Keefer's children attended Holly HS, were three sport athletes, and continued their playing career at the college level. Colby, class of 1995, played football at the University of Michigan. While there, the Wolverines won a Rose Bowl and the National title. Kyle, class of 1997, played football for Hillsdale College and was their starting quarterback all four years. Kourtney, class of 1999, won the prestigious Flint Kiwanis Athlete of the Year and played volleyball for Eastern Michigan University. Chuck and his wife Lori still reside in Holly.
