Middle School Teacher and Coach

After graduating from Central Michigan University in 1958, Gary taught and coached in Ovid for four years. He moved to Holly in 1962 with his wife Jean. He taught middle school math and coached middle school football and boys’ basketball. He assisted the varsity football and basketball coaches. He had many opportunities to be the varsity coach, but he was a fundamentalist…he knew he wanted to make certain that young athletes knew the basics of a sport before getting to high school. Gary loved working with young adults.

He had three children, all of whom graduated from Holly High School. Jeff and Dave each participated in three sport seasons, cross county, basketball, and track, during their high school careers. Leigh Ann was involved in other school activities, and like her mom, she was a great fan of Holly sports. She graduated from CMU.

Gary passed away in 1988 before retiring. His daughter Leigh Ann accepted his plaque.
