Ed was a track, cross country and football star for Holly High School. He graduated in 1983. Ed gained most of his recognition as a pole vaulter, winning the Flint Metro League championship as both a junior and senior. Ed also placed first at several prestigious track and field events including the Huron relays, Spartan Relays, Chippewa Relays and Greater Flint meet of Champions. In 1982 he broke the Holly High School pole vault record and went on to win the MHSAA Class B state championship. Ed was runner-up at the Class A state championship in 1983 and was selected to participate at the Midwest Meet of Champions. Ed also finished second at the Mansfield relays in 1983, which is the largest interscholastic high school track and field event in North America.

Ed received a full scholarship to Southwestern Michigan Community College where he qualified for NJCAA Nationals Championships. Ed transferred to Northwood Institute in 1986 and qualified for the NAIA National Championships in 1987 finishing 7th in the Nation. He graduated from Northwood Institute with a dual degree in computer science and management.

Ed is now the President of Michigan Rod Products and Chairman / C.E.O of Shannon Precision Fastener, LLC and resides in Ortonville with his wife Ronniedee, and their four children Chelsea, Alexis, Riley, and Leo.
