Jerry was a standout football, basketball, baseball and track athlete in the early 1950’s…the only sports offered at that time. He earned 15 varsity letters. His best sport was football. In 1954, he rushed for 1,127 yards and 10 touchdowns on 122 carries (9.3 yards per carry) thus landing a sport on the Class B All-State first team.

He also helped lead the Bronchos’ 1953 baseball team to a co-championship of the Wayne-Oakland League and the 1952 track team to both the Wayne-Oakland League and Class C regional championships.

After graduation, Jerry worked at a Chevrolet assembly plant in Flint. He also served in the military, being stationed in Korea for 16 months. Jerry married high school sweetheart, Nancy Sworthwood, in the fall of 1957. They have a daughter, a son and several grandchildren.
