The numbers are nothing short of astonishing. Under Bill McDaniel’s guidance, Holly tennis players captured 39 Flint Metro League Championships. The boys won 16…12 straight, while the girls won 23 consecutive titles. Bill coached tennis for 30 years. He began coaching the boys in 1975 and the girls in 1981. During his tenure the Bronchos took home 13 regional trophies and played in 30 state tournaments. They were victorious in over 350 dual meets. But it wasn’t always this way. It took Bill ten years of hard work before he celebrated his first boys league title. In the fall of 1981, his first as girls coach, the team mounted a 10-5 record, finishing 3rd in the league and 9th in the regional. The very next year, the squad started its win streak.

In 1999, the “new” Holly High School was built and the 12 court state of the art tennis facility were constructed. In 2003, the school board approved a proposal, initiated by tennis players, to name the facility The William C. McDaniel Center.

The Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association inducted Bill inducted their Hall of Fame on February 7, 2003. Two thirds of the banquet hall was filled with Holly tennis players, former players, alumni, friends, and school staff to honor Bill, his accomplishments and his dedication to the advancement of tennis.
