Boys Golf - 2x First Team FML Honoree, 2x All State Recognition, Member of FML Team Championship
HHS Class of 1979

If there was ever any doubt as to what would become of ‘his’ game, it ended early in his high school career when he shot a nine hole record 33. As a freshman, Dave Brochu led Holly to the 1st golf Flint Metro League title. He captained the golf team in both his junior and senior seasons and along the way earned first team FML honors and All-state recognition. Dave wasn’t just a ‘one-sport guy’ and in his senior season he skated with the Holly hockey team.

Mr. Brochu played collegiate golf for the University of South Florida in Tampa and at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. During those years he played against future PGA greats like Rocco Mediate and Lee Janzen. Dave graduated from UCF in 1984 with a degree in Business Management and Marketing…acquiring skills that he would put to great use back here in Michigan.

Following his collegiate years, he became a teaching professional at Glen Oaks Golf Course in Farmington Hills. Four years later he relocated to Fenton and worked at Harroun Enterprises. Eventually the entrepreneurial spirit surfaced as Dave and associates began Sterling Edge…a company that manufactures machine cutting tools for tool and die shops.

While a member of Spring Meadows County Club in Linden, Dave won five club championships and continues to hold the course record 64. He has won the Genesee All Star, the Flint City Amateur and is a three-time winner of the Flint City Best Ball tournament. In 2007 he teamed with Flushing’s Rob Bensik to set the two-day tournament record of 17 under par. Additionally, Dave has had five holes-in-one!

During his amateur career, Dave played in two U.S. Amateur events and once was paired with a young man from Stanford University named Eldrick Woods…who we know better as “Tiger”.

Dave and his wife Arika have two lovely children, Charlize and Shayla.

As a student, as an athlete, as a businessman…Dave Brochu has brought great honor to his family, his profession and to himself. We are extremely proud to claim Dave Brochu as a true Holly Broncho.
