Marva was a three-year basketball starter for the Bronchos from 1981-83. She led Holly to the Flint Metro League championship in 1983 with a 14-0 record. Marva shot 50 percent from the floor, grabbed 339 rebounds and blocked 126 shots.

The Bronchos’ co-captain was a first team All-Metro and Class A All-State pick. After graduating from Holly, Marva competed at the University of Iowa where she was a four-year letterwinner from 1984-88. Her senior year, the Hawkeyes claimed their first solo Big Ten Title when they defeated Wisconsin 98-50.

While in college, Marva met the football star, Merton Hanks. Merton went on to play professionally for the San Francisco 49ers. They have two children. Marva is extremely involved nationwide raising money to benefit the autism research.
