Boys Basketball - Member of Two District Championship Teams
Instrumental in the Selection of "Bronchos" as Holly Mascot
Distinguished Service Award
HHS Class of 1946

Bruce was instrumental in the selection of the Broncho as our mascot.

Bruce Dryer graduated in 1946. He earned eight varsity letters in the sports of football, basketball, baseball and track & field. He helped win two basketball district championships. Bruce played the trumpet in Holly's marching band.

Bruce was the student council president I 1945-46 and as mentioned briefly earlier, played a major role in the selection of Bronchos as the Holly High School mascot. Letters were sent to area schools inquiring about their mascot in an attempt to make certain that we did not duplicate another. The "Bronchos" selection was made by the student body in 1946.

Upon graduation, Bruce served in the United States Army for 18 months and then returned to Holly to help his dad with the funeral business. He attended Michigan State Normal College, which is now Eastern Michigan University, for two years and then transferred to Wayne State University. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Mortuary Science.

Dryer Funeral Home was established in 1925 by Bruce's father Paul Dryer. Bruce took over ownership in 1961.

Bruce and his wife Beth have four children...all Holly graduates. They also have 12 grandchildren, seven of which are Holly grads.

Bruce served one year as Village President, 11 years on the Village Council and 21 years on the Holly Fire Department.

Bruce loved to pitch softball ... fast pitch softball. One if his fondest memories is pitching batting practice to one of his daughters and two if his granddaughters softball teams here at Holly High School. He also enjoyed played taps during the Memorial Day Service for 70 years.

Bruce Dryer, we appreciate your years of Distinguished Service to our school, our country and our community. We are proud to induct you into the Broncho Hall of Fame.
