Jesse Mangham, known by his friends as Artie, had an outstanding athletic career at HHS earning ten varsity letters. He was a four-year starter on the varsity basketball team, three-year starter on both sides of the ball for our football team and three in track & field. Before his high school career was over, he earned FML All-League honors multiple times, set three football and six basketball records and was voted MVP in both football and basketball.

In 1986, Artie earned many accolades in football including: Tri-County News All-Area as “RB” and “DB” and All-Area MVP, All Oakland County “RB”, Honorable Mention All State “RB” Associated Press, Honorable Mention All State “DB” Detroit News, All-State Class A “DB” by United Press International.

In 1987, he again earned All-League, All-County and All-State honors.

In 1988, Artie became the first, of only two Holly HS football players, ever selected to play in the Michigan East-West All Star game…the other happens to be Kyle Keefer, our next inductee. As a defensive back, Artie was named to the Tri-County ALL-DECADE football team.

Additionally, his senior year, Artie was the chosen recipient of the prestigious Livings’ Brother Award…awarded annually to this day… to an outstanding senior male athlete who excels in athletics while demonstrating good sportsmanship and scholarship.

After high school graduation, Artie earned a full-ride scholarship to play football at Bowling Green University in Ohio and was a four-year letter winner. He was a starter for three seasons and served as team captain his senior year. Artie is the only player in school history to win Chevrolet Player of the Game which he did against Ohio State when he had 21 tackles, 1 sack and 1 tackle for a loss. He led his team to two bowl wins, the California Bowl in 1991 and the Las Vegas Bowl in 1992. USA Today called him “one of the most versatile athletes in Division I.

In 1992, additional awards Artie earned included: 1st team All-MAC “LB”, Defensive MVP, Lead team in tackles with 154 and was ranked 6th in the nation.

Artie earned his bachelor’s degree in Multi-Cultural Affairs and Social Services, then returned to Holly HS where he served on our football and basketball coaching staff.

Residing now in Canton, Michigan, Artie and his wife Kali have four children, Jalen, Jaren, Kalia, and Jaden.

Artie would like to thank his mother Claudia, grandmother Mary Barlow, uncle Kenny and Coach Keefer.
