Gene played football at HHS earning four varsity letters. He was the left halfback and defensive safety on the teams from 1947 - 1950. He was selected all conference 2nd team twice, and MVP twice. Gene was also captain of the football team.

Track was also a specialty of Gene’s. In his junior and senior seasons he ran the 100 and 220 yard dash, and was the anchor on the 440 and 880 yard relay teams.

Gene was the valedictorian of his senior class.

Upon graduation, Gene went into military service during the Korean conflict. He served from April 1952 until February 1955. Once Gene returned to the states he entered General Motors Institute…GMI, now called Kettering University from which he graduated in 1959. In 1972, Gene received a Masters degree from the University of Michigan.

Gene worked for General Motors, in various sales and marketing positions, for 32 years. His jobs included marketing manager for AC oil filters, senior district sales manager in Pittsburg, and sales promotion manager for the Detroit region. He retired in 1988.

Gene resides with his wife, Lucille, in Fenton. He has four children and seven grandchildren.
