Ken Osmun didn’t begin his athletic career at Holly High School until his junior year. He ran track his junior and then both cross country and track his senior year.

Ken worked diligently that first track season, but was not quite able to break the five minute mile. He worked tirelessly that summer, logged many miles and had a fantastic first and only cross country season. He earned 1st team Flint Metro League, All-Region and All-County honors and was a member of the state’s number one rated team.

As a senior in track, Ken got faster every week and qualified for the state meet in the 1600 and 3200 runs and earned 1st team FML in both events. At the state meet he ran the 1600 in 4:20.8 which is the second fastest mile recorded in Holly HS history.

Outside of running, Ken could usually be found skiing or bicycling during his years at Holly. He was senior class historian, member of the National Honor Society and student council.

He enrolled at Oakland University where he would compete in cross country. He was a four year varsity runner and continued getting faster with each competition. Ken won several collegiate races including the Conference Championship. As a senior he qualified for the NCAA championship meet where he ran the hilly 10,000 meter course in 30:14 and placed 11th overall, earning NCAA All-American honors.

Ken graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and then went on to serve our country as a Naval Officer. He spent 10 years in the Navy with specialties including nuclear power, facility management and engineering.

Running is still a passion of Ken’s. He has competed in several marathons and is a top ranked age-group triathlete where he has earned All American Honorable Mention Honors for USA Triathlon. He recently competed in an Ironman, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike followed by 26.2 mile run, finishing among the top amateurs.

Currently, Ken is the President of the construction group at Wight & Company, a Chicago based design and construction firm. He is married to the former Adrienne Zauel, a former Broncho runner and the sister of Mark, a Holly Hall of Fame member. Ken and Adrienne live in Naperville, IL with their two children Collin and Elyse.
