Boys Cross Country - 1980 Class B Individual State Champion

Matt lettered and excelled in track and field and cross country while at HHS.

He won six Flint Metro League track and field titles in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races. Matt won three regional track and field championships in the 1600 and 3200 races. He earned All-State honors in both of those events in 1980 and 1981.

Matt was a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) 1978 state championship team in 1978. He earned All-State honors three straight years. Matt was the first Holly cross country runner to win an MHSAA championship. He won the Class A race in 1980.

Matt continued his education and athletic career at Southwest Michigan Community College as a junior college competitor and then transferred to Southern Florida University. He was an All-American in cross country.

Matt earned a degree in Parks and Recreation from Central Michigan University. He is employed by the City of Dowagiac and lives on a centennial farm with his wife and two children.
